Shadow Legends

Down There and Back Again, by Twang

  • Down there and back again, by Twang …
  • We find our heroes in the forest where we last left them, it’s 1pm, 2pm, 1:12pm (final answer)
  • They venture on towards Fartstain (where the crystals were being shipped)
  • They pass several farms, until they find a city surrounded by stone walls
  • There’s a guarded gate
  • They approach the gate, the guards are aware of their presence
  • The group decides Alren would be the best person to speak to the guards
  • Alren introduces his pythons
  • The guard points them to the Rising Talisman (hotel)
  • They head into the inn, Kenan welcomes them
  • They decide to casually knock over some of the crystals to see if anyone reacts
  • Alren lays a bag of crystals on the table
  • Aelar keeps watch
  • Alren reaches for his drink and knocks the crystals on to the floor, then he casually grabs for them and puts them back in his pouch
  • The inn is hushed, our heroes have everyone’s attention
  • They talk to Kenan and ask him if he knows anything about the crystals
  • As they talk to Kenan, a man wearing a dark cloak notices. His name is Aylin
  • They ask Aylin what he knows of the crystals
  • Frea asks him who is in charge of the guards, his name is Daligus Rowdy
  • They find out Aylin is a farmer
  • Aylin tells them the delivery of crystals happens at night; was regular, but has slowed down
  • Aelar comes up with an idea: to talk to the king and convince him that Twang is also in the slave trading business, and they know of another vein of the crystals in a secret location
  • ….guage his reaction, and try to figure out what he’s doing with the crystals
  • They head back to the pub to ask him about any rivalries
  • They ask him about the King
  • They find out the 2 jails hold orc prisoners
  • Alren, Chant, Frea and Yurana head for the south gate in hopes of talking to the king
  • The guard tells them the king doesn’t just talk to anybody
  • …but he agrees to let them talk to the king if they do something for him
  • The guard tells them of a problem north of the town; someone is killing the traders who pass them
  • The guard marks somewhere on the map (on King’s road)
  • The gaurd’s name is Trenwold Unfora
  • Alren asks if Trenwold has any men he can spare to accompany our heroes on their quest north
  • Trenwold says no, but offers them 1,000gp if our heroes are successful
  • Chant wanders around the merchant roads in the town, asking around to see if anyone knows anything about the crystals
  • A merchant offers our heroes a potential gamble: 149gp, DC 15 to receive a magic item – body slot item (1d4 is the level, can add 100gp to add +1 to the level); Frea wins the gamble with flying colors! A level 5 magical item
  • Chant asks around the town to see if anyone knows anything about the fountain in the mountains (Frea’s wizard friend, Raynar, told Chant that visiting the Fountain in the Mountain might be a way to reverse his Undead curse!)
  • Chant keeps an eye out for a delivery, but he sees nothing of interest
  • They head into the forest, after 12 hours of searching, they finally find the sewer that fits what the guard had told them
  • They enter the sewers
  • They notice a flaming beast; Frea recognizes it as a Flaming Spiker
  • A battle commences, 1 of the wind devils escapes
  • Frea, Aelar and Chant chase after the running wind, but it escapes
  • They continue to chase after it
  • They find a room, filled with water, 4 alters, 3 holding urns, 1 alter has an urn beside it
  • As they approach the center of the room, entering the pool of water, they see the wind pick up the urn, place it on the alter, and a whirlpool appear in the pool in the middle of the room
  • There’s something oozy in the middle of the whirlpool (an oozy blob?)
  • Alren thinks it’s a plug
  • The blob engulfs Aelar
  • Chant tries to read one of the urns, and is sucked into the whirlpool because of it
  • Alren takes a closer look at one off the urns, and realizes there are words on it; he remembers hearing of such a situation where each urn has a word that needs to read outloud to rid the room of the whirlpool; he disables the southwestern urn
  • Chant reads the words on the northeastern urn, disabling it
  • Yurana disables the last urn, and the whirlpool disappears
  • Frea is knocked out, but is saved by her commrades
  • 130xp each
  • In the pool, they see a necklace swirling around
  • Yurana picks it up; Alren recognizes it as a Healer’s broach +1’ed-ness
  • Alren pees on the broach, Yurana swirls it around in the water to clean it, then equips it
  • They continue venturing through the sewers
  • They find a room with a beast in a cage, one roaming free
  • Frea recognizes the cages beast as an elemental beast that tends to bury its victims in mud
  • Aelar sneaks closer into the room
  • Yurana tries to sneak in behind Aelar but her armor is to clangy
  • Aelar runs up to a priest praying to a pentagram and jabs his rapier smoothily into the priests abdomen, causing him to cry out in pain
  • Yurana tries to stop him, her compassion is temporary and stems from her over consumption of 3 too many steins of ale
  • They kill the priest who was praying to the pentagon, the angel and one of the mud puppies
  • When one mud puppy is left, it no longer attacks, Alren and Yurana decide to not attack the mudbutt, but wait until it does something aggressive
  • While Alren is looking through the chest for loot, Chant kills the last mud puppy, and eats it; he then heads over to the recently killed priest and starts eating him, too
  • They find a nice staff on the priest, a Staff of Missle Master (Frea takes it)
  • Chant recognizes that the priest was praying to the alter to summon elementals
  • In the 2 chests, there were human clothes
  • 140xp each
  • They can’t decide whether or not to take a full nights rest in the priests room or a short rest and continue on through the sewers
